Our research primarily focuses on biomedical microorganisms isolated from clinically relevant samples, particularly from immunocompromised patients such as leukemia patients who are highly susceptible to opportunistic infections. We work extensively on rare and emerging opportunistic pathogens, especially Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Burkholderia along with other clinically significant and rare opportunistic multidrug-resistant microorganisms. Through collaborations with multiple hospitals such as AIIMS Rishikesh etc., biomedical samples are routinely received and processed in our laboratory for microbiological, molecular, and pathogenicity-related investigations.
One of the major aspects of our work involves antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) to determine the resistance and sensitivity profiles of clinical isolates against a broad spectrum of antibiotics. Using standardized microbiological approaches such as disk diffusion assays, minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) analysis, and broth-based susceptibility testing, we evaluate the antimicrobial resistance patterns of the isolates. These studies help in understanding multidrug resistance mechanisms and contribute toward identifying effective therapeutic strategies for difficult-to-treat infections.
