Light utilising microbial observation system for total microbial population count

Microbial contamination in liquid samples like fruit juice, milk, and water poses significant risks to food safety, public health, and industrial processes, necessitating rapid and sensitive detection methods. Traditional culture-based techniques are time-cosuming and labor-intensive, often delaying timely interventions. This work introduces an ATP-dependent luciferase bioluminescence assay as a swift, non-culture alternative for quantifying microbial growth. By leveraging the enzyme's high specificity for adenosine triphosphate (ATP)—a universal indicator of viable cells—the assay enables real-time monitoring of bacterial loads across diverse matrices, offering enhanced sensitivity, portability, and potential for point-of-care diagnostics in quality control and environmental monitoring.
